Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Sepehri

Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Sepehri Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Sepehri is an associate professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Tarbiat Modares University (TMU), Tehran, Iran.

Dr. Sepehri obtained his PhD in Management Science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in August 1991. He teaches MS and PhD level courses at TMU, where his teaching interests include network flows, data mining and knowledge discovery, mathematical programming, and business models.

His current research focuses on:

Operations Research in Medicine and Healthcare
Lean Healthcare, Lean Hospital;
Healthcare and Medical Decision Making;
Health Information Technology;
Network Flows & Routing;
Social Network Analysis, and Data/Text Mining;
Business Models.


Dr. Sepehri has published research articles in numerous journals, including International Journal of Production Research, Sensor Letters, Journal of Transportation Research, International Journal of Industrial Engineering-Theory Applications and Practice, and Computers & Operations Research. He has co-authored the book, Ant Colony Optimization and its Applications (in Persian) - 2008, and co-translated the book “Business Models - Allan Afuah” to Persian - 2009.

Dr. Sepehri has served as Chairman of Department of Industrial Engineering, director of Office of International Relations Affairs and director of the Research Institute of Information Technology (TRIIT) at TMU. He also has served as a consultant to several prominent firms in Iran, including Hamadan Glass Co., Oil Industry Investment Company, and Iran Khodro Diesel Co.

He is a member of the following professional organizations: Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS) and the Health Applications Society of INFORMS (HAS), Society for Health Systems (SHS), The The Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM), The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), The Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

My view on healthcare / hospital research (in Persian)
خلق درخشندگی‏ ها و زیبایی‏‏‏ های ذاتی هر پژوهش در حوزه مدیریت و مهندسی سیستم‏ های بیمارستانی فقط و فقط با حضور در فضای عاطفی و معنوی و کالبد ملموس بیمارستانی آغازیدن می‏ گیرد و سرچشمه‏ ی ایجاد برکت‏ های انسانی جاودانه می‏ شود. حضور در این فضا و کالبد مقدس و چشمه‏ گاه آرام و قرار آفرین است که پژوهشگر را به ورای زیبایی‏ های پایان‏ ناپذیرش می‏‏‏ کشاند:

تبسم‏ های روح‏نواز پرستاران به بیماران و نجواهای امید و آرامش ‏بخش آنان در گوش بسترگزین‏‏‏ های دلواپس،
انتظار بیمارداران امیدوار و گونه‏ های اشک آگین آنان،
نگاه‏ های مصمم جراحان با گام‏ های استوار ناخسته پس از ساعت‏ ها دانش اندیشی و پنجه‏ ورزی ماهرانه بر بالین بیماران که به آرامی از کناره‏ های راهروها می‏ گذرند،
خدمتگزاران رئوف و خندانی که با بازوانی محکم حائلی امن برای راهبرد بیماران کم‏ توان‏تر فراهم می‏ آورند،
کارکنان غم‏خواری که در راهروها و یا اتاق‏ های خود با دلگرمی به خانواده بیماران پاسخ می‏ دهند،

و ... پر واضح است که این صحنه‏ های زیبا گاهی اوقات با پرده‏ هایی از ای کاش نمی‏ داشتیم‏‏ ها در می‏ آمیزد. پژوهشگری به ورای واقعیات بیمارستانی دست می‏ یازد که حضوری واقعی و عینی را پذیرفته و با نگاه‏ های عمیق و طرح بیان‏ ها و پرسش‏ ها و پاسخ های فراوان آهسته آهسته به منفذی برای ورود به پژوهشی رهگشا راه یابد.
